Jonathan Bender is a theater actor and director, coach, conscious entrepreneur, speaker, and founder of Whole Speak.

In today’s interview, Jonathan talks about the connection between the voice, the emotions, and the body, and how using his techniques and teachings can help you find your “true” voice and expression in the world.  He also shares with us just what it takes to be a powerful and impactful speaker.

SOME GREAT EXCERPT(S):

I have noticed over the years that particular patterns [in people] have coronations.  So, a high voice (if someone really can’t access a deeper voice) usually means that they are not comfortable fully being themselves.  Around other people, they step out of their power.  For someone who has very soft enunciation, that usually means, to some degree, that they don’t feel that they can strongly impact others.  Which also means that as someone really learns to to enunciate through my kind of crazy techniques (more than just a standard enunciation drill) they start to step into their ability to have a greater impact in the world.

Learning how to breathe diaphragmatically while relaxing your body and practicing that throughout the day – is one of the ways that we re-pattern the nervous system.

BEST ADVICE:

Public speaking is both an art and a science that can be learned fairly easily.

BEST MINDSET ADVICE:

I find that enhancing self-expression is actually a process of self-expansion. We start to find more of who we are in a very fun way.

NATASHA’S REFLECTIONS:

Jonathan shared in the interview that by finding your “voice” and expression, your confidence naturally grows and your non-verbal communication improves as well.  This will open up your world by making you much more attractive to new people and business opportunities.  I understand that any small positive change you make can have strong “domino” effect on your life, but, after talking to Jonathan I think that finding your voice and learning how to express yourself with confidence is a very powerful way to create big and lasting changes in your life and how you experience the world.  There is something very deep and transformative about empowering your voice.
